Land Rover Launching Superfast SUV

If you’re into that sort of thing, Land Rover have recently announced their fastest ever Range Rover – the Range Rover Sport SVR (SVR will be the future designation for all the more sporty-minded Land Rover and Jaguar models).

This version gets a 5.0L supercharged V8 engine with an output of 542hp, and will charge to 100 kph in 4.5 seconds, topping out at 260 kph. The pretty great looking SVR will make its début a Pebble Beach in California this Thursday. All of that power is delivered or restrained via an eight speed automatic transmission, upgraded air suspension and bushings, and a four-wheel drive chassis, despite the fact that driving on a slightly grassy lane is as much off-roading as the average Range Rover will experience.

Land Rover have also been keen to stress that this SVR posted one of the fastest Nürburgring times for an SUV, at 8 minutes 14 seconds. Why potential owners would really require its lap time around the Nürburgring is debatable, considering racing is unlikely to be at the top of their list of priorities. Still, it’s always a point of pride over drinks at a cocktail party where perhaps one or two people present either understand or care that your 4×4 is at least theoretically faster than a Mercedes C63 AMG.

And it’s far better looking too. Look around the car and you’ll find smooth, sculpted lines, an aggressive stance, quad exhaust points, a spoiler and 22in alloy wheels. You can also choose from six colours, but we have to say the Estoril Blue (pictured) makes this SVR look quite breathtaking. So how much can you expect to fork out for the privilege of driving around in one of these beasts? 93,450 of your British pounds (€117,564). But just look at it. Now that’s what you could call art.
